Over the summer, Gary was appointed to the
Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Appraisal Reform.
During that time he traveled the district and state listening
to people's personal stories of property tax appraisal abuse
on their homes. During the next legislative session, Gary
Elkins will cosponsor legislation promoted by Harris County
Tax Assessor Paul Bettencourt to lower the homeowner property
tax appraisal cap from 10% to 5%. By limiting runaway appraisals,
Texas families will enjoy lower property taxes and seniors
will not be forced from their homes.
